BANGKOK, 22 November – Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) has taken an important step in strengthening its role as a center of academic and research excellence through the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Sultan Abdul Samad Library (PSAS) and the Office of the University Library, Kasetsart University, Thailand. This initiative marks the beginning of a meaningful collaboration that is hoped to contribute positively to the advancement of higher education in the region.
The partnership aims to broaden access to scholarly resources through shared institutional repositories and special collections, while encouraging the adoption of digital technologies in library management. It also includes professional staff exchange programs that will provide opportunities for librarians from both institutions to enhance their competencies, develop soft skills, and learn best practices at the international level.
UPM’s Chief Librarian, Mahbob Yusof expressed that this MoU represents a joint effort to create space for continuous innovation and knowledge sharing. “This collaboration reflects UPM’s commitment to remain relevant and competitive globally. We believe this step will bring benefits in terms of technological development, service enhancement, and enriched learning experiences aligned with international standards,” he said.
Through this agreement, UPM and Kasetsart University are not only strengthening academic ties but also creating strategic value that is hoped to deliver positive impact to scholarly communities in both countries. The collaboration is expected to pave the way for joint programs in agriculture, related sciences, and digital innovation, reinforcing the role of libraries as knowledge hubs and catalysts for transformation in higher education.
