Serdang, 18 August 2026 – Perpustakaan Sultan Abdul Samad (PSAS), UPM organised the program “Bicara Ketua Pustakawan: Merealisasi Strategi Ke Arah Perpustakaan Masa Hadapan” to strengthen the library’s strategic direction towards realising its aspiration of becoming a World-Class Academic Library.

Cik Haslina binti Abu Seman @ Talib, Chief Librarian of UPM, elaborated on the University’s approach to translating the UPM True North Strategic Framework and UPM Strategic Plan 2026–2030 into implementation at the Library level. She said, “PSAS is transforming its role from a provider of information resources into value creation that delivers impact to users.”

She further explained that library services need to be continuously measured to ensure their relevance and effectiveness. “The library is no longer merely a place to obtain information resources, but must create value and deliver impact to its users,” she said.

Encik Muhammad Izhar Ruslan, Librarian, Archives Division, Institutional Knowledge Management Section, said the programme provided an opportunity for library officers to understand their roles and responsibilities as public servants. “Through programmes such as this, all library officers can reflect on what needs to be done so that the work we do remains aligned and in tandem with the direction brought by the University,” he said.

Meanwhile, Encik Muhammad Syazni Aiman Saad, Assistant Librarian, Archives Division, Institutional Knowledge Management Section, said the programme provided a clearer understanding of the library’s direction in supporting the University’s aspirations. “This programme provides library staff with a better understanding of the library’s direction and clear goals, enabling us to work together to elevate PSAS towards achieving its aspiration as a World-Class Academic Library,” he said.

Puan Izwana Ismail, Psychology Officer from the UPM Counselling Division, was also invited to deliver a motivational talk entitled “Meaningful Work, Well-being at Work” to enhance the motivation and well-being of library staff in carrying out their daily responsibilities and tasks.

It is hoped that this programme can strengthen PSAS staff’s understanding of UPM’s strategic direction while fostering closer and more effective collaboration between the Library, faculties and Responsibility Centres (PTJs).
