SERDANG, 18 August 2026 – The Sultan Abdul Samad Library (PSAS), Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM), achieved another proud milestone when two innovations developed by the MetaCrew Innovative and Creative Circle (KIK) team—the FAsst (Faharasat Assistant) Chrome Extension and MetaDash (Metadata Dashboard)—were successfully registered for copyright on 14 August 2026 with the Intellectual Property Corporation of Malaysia (MyIPO) through Putra Science Park (PSP), UPM.

Both innovations are key components of the MetaDash + FASST: Strategic Repository Management System innovation project, which integrates automation and metadata management technologies to streamline workflows and strengthen repository management in a more strategic, systematic and effective manner. These innovations also support PSAS’s efforts to strengthen information management and accelerate the digitalisation of library services.

According to Project Leader Mr. Mohamad Syahrul Nizam, the innovations were developed to simplify the management of materials, accelerate the indexing process in the UPM Institutional Repository (UPM IR) and improve workflow efficiency. They also enable workflows and repository management statistics to be monitored in real time, thereby supporting more efficient, accurate and effective repository management.

According to PSAS Chief Librarian Ms. Haslina Abu Seman, “This project contributes to strengthening the university’s knowledge assets and serves as a catalyst for transforming metadata management and the digitalisation of services at PSAS.”

The copyright registration of both innovations represents a strategic step towards protecting innovative outputs and strengthening recognition of innovations developed by PSAS staff. At the same time, this achievement creates opportunities for the innovations to be further utilised, developed and explored for potential commercialisation in the future.

This achievement reflects the commitment of PSAS, UPM, to fostering a culture of innovation and encouraging the development of digital solutions that add value to the management and delivery of library services.
