Serdang, 9 July 2025 – The Media, Archives and Conservation Division of the Sultan Abdul Samad Library (PSAS), Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) organized a creative workshop entitled “Blank Pages: DIY Diary Workshop” on 9 July 2025. The session took place at the division’s premises from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.
The workshop aimed to introduce participants to the basics of manual bookbinding while providing an opportunity for students to design and bind their own exclusive diaries. A total of five UPM students participated in the workshop, which offered a hands-on experience in creating personalized, sentimental notebooks.
Throughout the workshop, participants were guided step by step through the processes of paper cutting, page arrangement, binding, and decorating the diary cover. Many expressed excitement and pride in successfully producing their own handcrafted notebooks, each with a unique personal touch.
The workshop was facilitated by experienced PSAS staff who specialize in library material binding. Beyond introducing the fundamentals of bookbinding, the workshop encouraged creativity and awareness of preserving physical materials, especially in the context of personal record and document management.
This event was held in conjunction with International Archives Day 2025 at UPM, themed “94 Years of UPM: Honouring History, Shaping the Future.” The workshop reflected PSAS’s commitment to engaging students with creative activities related to printed materials while fostering appreciation for personal memory and documentation through hands-on experiences.
