Serdang, 23 September 2025 – The Sultan Abdul Samad Library (PSAS), Universiti Putra Malaysia, organized the PSAS Staff Competency Matrix Development Workshop at the Termasa Room, PSAS. This one-day workshop, held from 8.30 a.m. to 4.30 p.m., was attended by 27 participants consisting of Heads of Divisions and one representative from each division in PSAS.

The workshop commenced with welcoming remarks from the Deputy Chief Librarian, Ms. Haslina Abu Seman @ Talib, who emphasized the importance of competency development as a foundation for enhancing the capabilities and professionalism of library staff in line with the university’s aspirations.

The workshop session was facilitated by Dr. Siti Noormi binti Alias, Senior Lecturer at the Faculty of Educational Studies, UPM, who shared expertise in the field of competency development. The main objectives of the workshop were to enhance participants’ understanding of the concepts and components of the competency matrix, guide participants in identifying relevant core, generic, and functional competencies, and provide direction for developing a competency matrix aligned with PSAS’s strategic goals.

Throughout the workshop, participants were encouraged to engage actively through questions and interactive discussions.The two-way discussion helped participants gain a clearer understanding of the competency matrix development process and its application in their respective work areas.

Through this initiative, PSAS staff are expected to contribute more effectively toward achieving the library’s strategic objectives, particularly in enhancing service quality and fostering staff talent development.
