SERDANG, 27 July 2026 – The Sultan Abdul Samad Library (PSAS), Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM), in collaboration with the School of Graduate Studies (SGS), organised an online webinar entitled “How to Write a Quantitative Research Proposal” via Zoom. The programme attracted 126 participants comprising postgraduate students, researchers and academics from within and outside UPM.

The webinar aimed to enhance participants’ knowledge and skills in preparing systematic, high-quality quantitative research proposals that meet academic writing standards. It also introduced participants to the key components of developing a research proposal in preparation for conducting a study.

The webinar was presented by Dr. Aini Azeqa Ma’rof from the Faculty of Human Ecology (FEM), UPM. During the session, she explained the steps involved in developing a strong research proposal, from identifying the research problem and formulating research objectives and hypotheses to selecting an appropriate methodology and producing clear, well-structured academic writing.

According to Dr. Aini Azeqa Ma’rof, a high-quality research proposal should be based on a significant research problem, clear objectives and an appropriate methodology. These elements ensure that the research can be conducted systematically and produce valid findings. She also explained that a research proposal serves as an essential guide for ensuring that every phase of the research is carefully planned, thereby improving the quality of the research outcomes.

In addition to theoretical insights, participants received practical guidance on identifying research gaps through literature reviews, developing conceptual frameworks, selecting appropriate research instruments and avoiding common mistakes when preparing research proposals. The programme concluded with a question-and-answer session, allowing participants to seek further clarification on the challenges and best practices involved in writing quantitative research proposals.

The webinar reflects PSAS’s continued commitment to strengthening the research culture by providing relevant competency-development programmes for the university community. It is hoped that the knowledge and guidance shared will help participants produce higher-quality, competitive and impactful research proposals, thereby supporting UPM’s aspiration to be an internationally recognised research university.
