Many libraries around the world are using TikTok, a fast-growing social media app, to promote their services. TikTok is a popular social media app that allows users to record, watch, and share short videos using their smartphones. The app is known for its high levels of engagement, thanks to its personalized feeds of short videos including music and sound effects. Content creators can use filters, background music, and stickers to enhance their videos, as well as collaborate on content and create split-screen duet videos from different locations. There are many ways that libraries can utilize TikTok.
1. Marketing Books
Use TikTok to record some simple & short book reviews. Allow the library to create engaging videos to promote new books to students.
2. Collection Development
It is one of the sources for librarians to learn about new and upcoming book releases, see what people are saying about them, and get plenty of ideas for books to add to library collections. This helps to improve library collection's diversity, representation, and inclusivity.
Combat outdated, harmful stereotypes and misunderstandings. Provide users with information that is truth, fact, accurate and most importantly useful to them.
4. Community Building
Establish the library’s physical space as a safe, vibrant, welcoming, engaging, and relatable place even if the users are not physically attended.
TikTok is a content creation tool that can be used to announce things to the communities. Video content is an incredibly successful medium for conveying information, especially to the younger generation which are far more likely to watch a short video than to read a text-based announcement.
6. Instructional tutorials
Create short tutorials or instructional videos on any educational topic. Librarians can create tutorial videos to provide students a basic overview on how to use the library services effectively and efficiently. Indirectly, libraries can promote the library services.
