Serdang, 17 June - Perpustakaan Sultan Abdul Samad (PSAS) has organized an Oral History Documentation Briefing session online as an effort in gathering, preserving and interpreting the voices and memories of people, communities, and participants in past event through narrating the history of UPM.
UPM Chief Librarian, Mr. Muzaffar Shah Kassim, in his welcome speech expressed his hope that the oral history collection activities, especially UPM historical materials, can be implemented systematically. During this 2 hours briefing session, the guest speaker, Mr. Mohamad Rodzi Abd Razak, Lecturer of the History Program, Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities, Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia shared his experience and expertise on the theory and techniques in conducting oral history activities. Various ideas, scopes and project titles have also been added and shared through this session. A total of 76 participants consisting of PSAS staff and UPM Alumni Relations Center UPM were exposed to oral history project planning techniques in a structured and neat manner. The organization of this briefing is also a continuation of the Oral History Forum session: Sustaining UPM's Treasures of Knowledge which was organized by PSAS on the 11th March 2021.
In line with the UPM Golden Jubilee Celebration in conjunction with the 50th Anniversary of the Establishment of UPM, oral history activities are seen to be significant in compiling historical materials on the establishment and excellence of UPM as a reference in the present and future.
