Video Conferencing Applications

Throughout the Movement Control Order (MCO), most employees and students carry out office work especially meetings and take classes online using a variety of video conferencing software. The Sultan Abdul Samad Library also uses video conferencing software for the purpose stated above. Here are some software that can be used for activities such as online meetings and online classes.

Zoom

Zoom can be used via a web app or a desktop version as well (https://zoom.us/). Zoom has a free version, a Pro version (https://zoom.us/pricing). Currently, Zoom is temporarily removing the 40-minute time limit on free Basic accounts for primary and secondary schools affected by the Coronavirus. Zoom helps universities and schools improve student outcomes with secure video communication services for hybrid classrooms, office hours, administrative meetings, and more. Zoom can support up to 100 participant at one time.

Cisco Webex

Webex Meetings (https://www.webex.com/) is specifically designed for videoconferencing and online events. Webex is offering you the most secure collaboration platform in the world to help everyone stay safe and connected in these challenging times. Webex Meetings can support up to 200 participant at one time. Webex is usable with a desktop app or a web app. The web app has the same functionality as the desktop version, except for two important features: the web version does not support end-to-end encryption, and no legacy Voice-over-IP (VoiP).

Microsoft Teams

Microsoft Teams is part of the Microsoft 365 family of productivity products. Microsoft Teams can host audio, video, and web conferences with anyone. Get features such as scheduling assistance, meeting note taking, screen sharing, meeting recording, and instant messaging. Microsoft Teams also can hold any meeting live; large meetings, webinars, company-wide events, and presentations with up to 10,000 attendees inside or outside your organization with Teams live events.

Google Meet

Google Meet (https://meet.google.com/) is the recently re-named version of Google Hangouts Meet. Google Meet service integrates with the rest of the Google productivity stack, G Suite. The service supports millions of users every day, including enterprise and educational clients. With Google Meet, you can support up to 250 participants in a single call. Additionally, there’s live streaming available for up to 100,000 viewers, and the option to set up calls via Google Calendar.
