SERDANG – The establishment of the Wakaf Prayer Room at the Sultan Abdul Samad Library (PSAS), Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM), strengthens on-campus worship facilities while supporting the spiritual well-being of the university community within a conducive and holistic learning environment.

Developed based on the concept of waqaf, the prayer room provides a comfortable, accessible, and user-friendly space for worship, particularly for library users and PSAS visitors.

Located at the Student Area, Block B, Level 2, near the Special Collection section, the prayer room covers an area of approximately 111.5 square metres and can accommodate around 100 worshippers at any one time. The facility is also designed to accommodate male and female users separately, ensuring comfort and appropriate usage.

As part of the library’s facilities, the Wakaf Prayer Room serves as a daily worship space that supports a balance between the academic and spiritual needs of the campus community.

UPM Chief Librarian, Cik Haslina Abu Seman, said that the establishment of the Wakaf Prayer Room reflected the library’s continuous efforts to enhance support facilities for its users.

“This prayer room not only provides a comfortable and conducive space for worship, but also complements a holistic learning environment that takes into account the spiritual needs of the campus community,” she said.

In addition, the establishment of this facility reflects PSAS’s appreciation of waqaf culture as a sustainable practice in supporting the development of educational infrastructure, while providing long-term benefits to the university community.

This initiative further reinforces PSAS’s role as a knowledge hub that not only provides information and learning resources, but also emphasises holistic well-being through inclusive, comfortable, and user-friendly facilities.
