Serdang, 11 June 2026 - Sultan Abdul Samad Library (PSAS), Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM), organised a Basic Microsoft Power BI Workshop for UPM staff and external participants to enhance their skills in data management, analysis, and visualisation using the Microsoft Power BI platform.

The workshop was conducted by Ts. Mohd Afiq Rusly, a librarian in from the Digital Services and ICT Section, with assistance from Ms. Syafiqah Nabilah Jamali from the Research Data Analysis Section, PSAS, UPM.

Throughout the workshop, participants were introduced to the fundamentals of Power BI through both theoretical and practical sessions. The sessions covered data preparation, the use of Power Query Editor, data modelling, DAX functions, and techniques for creating interactive data visualisations.

The adoption of Power BI offers significant benefits by streamlining data management and presenting information through more interactive and easily comprehensible visualisations and presentations. Mr. Mohamad Imran Zamberi, an Executive Officer from the Faculty of Food Science and Technology, stated, "Power BI helps users generate more interactive data visualizations and presentations, particularly when dealing with large datasets. This is an essential skill that staff members should master to facilitate more effective data management and report preparation."

It is hoped that similar workshops will continue to be organized in the future with more in-depth content, enabling participants to master the advanced features of Power BI and apply them effectively in various data management contexts within their respective organizations.
