NIOSH Forms a Collaborative Partnership with Universiti Putra Malaysia on Publishing and Information ManagementNIOSH Forms a Collaborative Partnership with Universiti Putra Malaysia on Publishing and Information Management

Serdang, 3 July 2025 – The National Institute of Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH), through its Information Dissemination Division (IDD), conducted a collaborative networking visit to Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) to explore opportunities for collaboration in publishing and information sharing related to occupational safety and health (OSH).

The visit, held at 10:00 a.m., is part of NIOSH’s strategic efforts to expand its collaborative network with higher learning institutions, particularly in promoting OSH awareness through scholarly and informative publications.

The main objectives of the visit included:

  1. Establishing a publishing collaboration between NIOSH and UPM
  2. Sharing information on publishing activities carried out by NIOSH’s Information Dissemination Division
  3. Exploring potential research and publication collaborations with UPM’s academic community on OSH-related topics
  4. Gaining insights into best practices in university archival management and preservation

NIOSH’s Information Dissemination Division also introduced several of its key publications, including:

  1. OSH Alert – A weekly infographic series raising general awareness of OSH
  2. FYi (For Your Info) Newsletter – A monthly publication highlighting current issues and OSH information
  3. INTELLECT Newsletter – A quarterly publication showcasing achievements in laboratories, technology, and research
  4. JOSH (Journal of Occupational Safety and Health) – A biannual academic journal featuring full-length research papers on OSH

In addition to the discussion on publications, the NIOSH delegation also held a session with the Archives and Conservation Division of the Sultan Abdul Samad Library to observe first-hand the methods used for developing and managing the university’s archival collections. Emphasis was placed on the digitisation of archival materials and the preservation of the university’s corporate memory — a model that NIOSH sees as having potential reference value.

NIOSH hopes that this visit will pave the way for broader collaborations in disseminating occupational safety information and preserving institutional knowledge, particularly through impactful publishing and document preservation initiatives that benefit both society and industry.
