Introduction to Data Analytics: Basic Microsoft Power BI Course Organised by Sultan Abdul Samad Library, UPM

Serdang, 10 September 2025 – Sultan Abdul Samad Library (PSAS), Universiti Putra Malaysia, through the Research and Information Services Division (BPPM) and in collaboration with the Corporate and Staff Training Division (BKLS), organised the Data Analytics Course: Basic Introduction to Microsoft Power BI at Bilik Malawati, PSAS.

The course aimed to introduce the fundamental concepts of data analytics and the use of Microsoft Power BI to participants, particularly Librarians and Assistant Librarians of PSAS. Through this exposure, participants were guided to master basic skills in using key Power BI functions to produce clear, meaningful, and easy-to-understand interactive reports. Each topic delivered was accompanied by hands-on sessions to ensure deeper understanding.

The training session was conducted by invited speaker Ts. Mohd Afiq Rusly, assisted by representatives from the Information Technology Systems Division. The speaker has experience in information technology and data analytics and shared practical guidance on preparing datasets, creating interactive visualisations, and developing dashboards using Power BI.

The course ran from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. with active participation from 31 participants through theoretical and practical learning sessions. The course is hoped to enhance the library staff’s capabilities in leveraging data analytics technology to support information management functions and improve services for the campus community.

Overall, participants were highly satisfied with the course, as it taught the complete process of using Microsoft Power BI from A to Z. By the end of the course, many participants were able to produce interactive and visually appealing reports and dashboards.
